80s Patrol
I made this piece back in 2019, right after having finished Morrison’s Doom Patrol run for the first time. I’d just previously read the Arnold Drake one, and wanted to mix both collage and illustration and bring together a mix of vintage designs to the Doom Patrol show cast.
Edit: Commissions open as of 29-04-2023

I've got to Brendan Fraiser episodes (I'm shocked, they happen so soon; I expected them to happen at least in S3), and you know what?
Playing a sweetheart everybody loves comes naturally to this guy. He's fun, optimistic, quirky and friendly. You get why even Perry fucking Cox is relaxed around him and likes his company.
That is why this whole leukemia plot hits everybody so strong. Ben Sullivan is a friend, a family member and overall good person that gets a horrible, life-changing disease.
Then you also have the (in)famous: "Where do you think we are?" from much later episode.
I don't remember if there are more appearances of Ben between S1 and that final episode.

Its a good thing that younger characters are played by people over 18. Its good that Ellie isn’t played by a 14 year old, that Armand isn’t played by a teenager, that Claudia was aged up and then played by a 19 year old. These practices keep minors safe, from a predatory industry and from people fudging labor law constraints. Especially on shows that are 90% night shoots where a child cannot legally work that long (like say IWTV). Its also better for the show as you have a more experienced actor, both professionally and personally.
Film and TV productions are not like books! There are real people filming that you need to take into account when it comes to what the characters do and who you cast. Rules around the safety of minors (and ALL actors) are more important than a character being portrayed exactly as you see them in your head. The people who make your entertainment, cast and crew, are real people maybe talk about them like they are and not just dolls to make your perfect vision.
#and if i see 'brendan fraiser's son should be armand' again i'm throwing that person out a window#did you know kirsten dunst to this day is uncomfortable over the louis/claudia kiss?#did you know on kristen stewart's 18th birthday they celebrated by having a full night shoot cause they legally could now?#wah wah they aren't exploiting a minor for my tv show

You know the older I get, the less star power means to me. Give me shows where the leads aren’t played by a true A-lister, who actually cares about the part they’re playing and why they’re playing it and the nuances they want to convey with that over some hollywood darling any day and THEN I’ll pay attention
#and the thing is major institutions don’t recognize this but some other indie studios are really wising up to this#like. if robert de niro and leo dicaprio get noms for killers of the flower moon what even is the point anymore#lily gladstone was ABSOLUTELY the highlight!!! and it’s clear from the way she played that#not so much from the dudes who have worked with marty a million times and even made their career with him#like. I mean seriously? you martin scorcesse had to rely on those names to get the film seen??? unreal man#everyone who came back for scott pilgrim gets a pass on this tho that’s kindof a baller move#sorry I can’t sleep so I’m philosophizing on main#and yes once again I’m talking about jared harris bc he’s really one of the poster children for this#along with ke huy kwan and now also brendan fraiser with all their career comebacks#that shit needs to be RECOGNIZED more often#stop casting like the same 5 people in movies please I beg you hollywood

in the checkout lane at Aldi, mentally microwaving that one piece of art (concept art? artbook bit????), about a proposed happy ending by your LI's side
the one with Davrin chopping wood, outside what I presume is a little cottage(?) somewhere green, captioned with something implying that that's his happily ever after
on the outside i'm stonefaced and buying flour and cat food, but on the inside I'm trying not to get overemotional thinking about how 1. that means my Rook is finally going to actually get the happy ending that all of my protagonists in the series have been dreaming about for the past decade (the quiet, peaceful life away from everything)(yeah, the half-bird, half-cat kid is new, but she can make it work)(we're pointedly NOT going to think about how no matter what, unless the blight is now considered cured somehow, he's probably dying in his mid-fifties at the latest),
and how 2. soon Assan is going to get too big to live indoors, so they're probably going to need to build a stable and corral, and start incorporating horse-like elements into his training (and if Ver has anything to say about that, that will most definitely include shirtless riding exercises that are carefully overseen by her for.... safety reasons. nothing else. ofc.)
#squirrel plays datv#davrin#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age the veilguard#not to tell on myself for being an old; but. yall remember the horse scene from George of the Jungle#when Young Brendan Fraiser is just running around with the horses in slo-mo and like seven women are just quietly drooling off the side#yeah. that.#that was -dare I say- sexually formative for me when i first saw it as a tiny little baby child#i'm so disappointed in myself for not having saved that piece!#i'll find it when i get the artbook at the latest because i'm sure that i didn't just dream that up#but it lives in my head until then
